Patent medicines vs. Generic medicines

This is a long and challenging discussion. As an example, we can find some patented medicines for over 1500 pesos, while the theoretical same medicine in its generic presentation has 10% of such cost, i.e., 150 pesos.

So, if they represent the same medicine, why is this discussion taking place? Well, as said at the beginning, it is a difficult discussion, but in my experience, here are some facts to note. Many generic medications work precisely as they should, so using this "cheaper copy," you obtain the same medical results, such as painkiller medicines, cholesterol management medicines, vitamins, and so on. However, sometimes you may notice that some medicines work faster than others, or in other cases, you appreciate their effects in a much shorter time.

Also, and here is the concern: some of the patent ones don't work as they are supposed to work. In fact, if you have, for instance, chronic pain (mild pain, for example, back pain) and you are on Ibuprofen and Diclofenac or Naproxen regular use, try to buy the patented ones, and figure out by yourself if there is or there isn't a difference.
However, the main focus for this discussion now is on those medicines that should work exactly as expected, for example, Hypertension-lowering, Antiarrhythmic, Anti-convulsant, anti-diabetic, and neurologic medicines. In any of these examples or many others for "difficult to treat diseases, or diseases that need to be highly controlled," I strongly recommend the use of patented medicines because many times, the cheaper medicine would take a longer time to start to work adequately or do not reach the adequate blood levels and organ levels, as well as many others aren't easily eliminated or has no pill structures for stomach mucus protection. So, as a recommendation, if you have a disease that needs to be under total control, and you are happy to find a much cheaper medicine here, well, do your research about that medicine, who the producers are, and many times, how are you body reacting to this new cheap drug.

Be wise and remember that the cheaper often becomes expensive if a medicine is not working perfectly as it is supposed to.
