Hi there. I hope you are enjoying everything about Mexican culture and, of course, their food. Today, I would like to give some ''red flags'' signs and symptoms to be aware of dehydration.
First of all, when you have mild diarrhea and/or vomit, you are losing not only water (free water) but electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium. This loss also happens through sweating or spending hours under the heat with no water replacement.
But, when water and electrolyte losses are high, you will experience disorientation, tiredness, and a very dry mouth sensation; your skin becomes dry as well, and if you press it between your fingers, it does not return to its original elastic characteristic. When this happens, it probably means you are in danger of dehydration, which could be caused by the lower sodium and potassium levels, causing dangers such as heart arrhythmias or kidney damage, including failure.
So, again, as always recommended, if you start to feel some of these signs or symptoms, call a physician to be attended to as soon as possible; this action could save your life.
